YORK and District Indoor Bowls Club's Yetton Trophy team crushed last year's winners Boston 89-69 to move into the semi-finals of a competition York won two years ago.

York led 20-19 after five ends, then 40-36 after ten. Five ends later it stood at 60-55 and then after 18 ends the lead had increased by by one shot to 72-66.

But it was in the last three ends that York showed their true potential as they scored 17 shots to only three against.

Playing at York, Linda Harrison, Melanie Brooke, Joyce Chelin and Lynda Parker were 10-2 ahead after six ends.

The trophy holders won five of the following six ends to lead 12-11, but Harrison's team scored 12 shots on four of the next five ends to lead 23-13 with four ends to play.

These were shared but the visitors could only score singles while York picked up a further four shots to win the game 27-15.

Carol Instone, Sue Kirkpatrick, Brenda Love and Joan Jackson scored a four on the seventh end to lead 10-5.

They extended this with singles on the next two ends. Te shots were shared for the rest of the game and York won 22-15.

Playing at Boston Pat Napier, Sue Tomlinson, June Clayton and Dot Kennelly won seven of the first ten ends to lead 11-5.

The home team won the next three ends to make the score 11-9 but Napier's team won all but two of the remaining ends to win 21-13.

In the other rink at Boston, Sue Chilton, Trish Harrison, Maureen Walker and Madge Zimnoch trailed 15-2 after eight ends and then 23-9 after 14 ends, but stopped their opponents from scoring in the last three ends and went down only 26-19.

York will play Desboroug Maidenhead, 97-50 conquerors of Colchester, in the trophy semi-finals at Nottingham on Saturday, March 9, starting at 9.30am.

The club are running a coach to the game for members only at a cost of £5 per head. Bookings are to be taken on a first come first served basis.

The other semi-final will be between Egham and Plymouth Civil Service. The winners of both semi-finals will go on to play in the final in the afternoon.
