ALL Saints Amateur Boxing Club has received a 'positive response' after news the club could cease to exist.

As reported in the Evening Press, the club, which has produced such champions as Henry Wharton and Jamie Warters, is facing an uncertain future unless they can find a new home.

However, after details of their plight were made public, the club are to meet with people over potential new premises to fight from, while two people have come forward to help with the coaching of the youngsters.

And in an added bonus to All Saints, they are set to receive help to apply for much-needed funds.

Secretary Lewis Gell said: "The article has been a great help as we have had two people come in and volunteer, as well as a lady - I'm not sure if she is from the council or not - who is going to help us go through the forms so we can apply for grants.

"I'm also speak with a couple of people about possible new premises

"It has been brilliant, a real positive response."

All Saints have also had a number of calls from people interested in joining the club.

And with the future looking brighter, the York-based club could soon be involved in regular boxing bouts against fighters from the Harrogate and Knaresborough.

Plans have been accepted by Harrogate planners for a new boxing club to set up in the Starbeck area in a bid to get kids off the streets and into the gym.

Peter Goodrick, matchmaker and sponsor of the All Saints' said: "They have had a club in that area on-and-off for a while, but it is good news to here they could be back up and running.

"I am pleased for them, it will be good to have some local bouts."
