FOOTBALLING City fans will be looking to move a step closer to national glory in a major five-a-side competition tomorrow.

A squad from South Bank FC will represent the Minstermen in the quarter-finals of the Worthington Fives competition, which will be staged in Nottingham.

If they beat Blackpool in their quarter-final clash, the City lads will also play their semi-final tomorrow where they will be looking to go one better than last year.

Having reached the last four 12 months ago, the City boys lost out to eventual winners Bolton.

However, Bolton have now been knocked out of the competition and so City have been installed as favourites.

The national competition gives fans the chance to represent their nominated professional club in a national five-a-side tournament.

The final be a curtain-raiser to the Worthington Cup Final in February, the winners netting an all-expenses paid trip in Europe. A coach will be taking supporters to Nottingham to cheer on the lads tomorrow. For further details, telephone Dave Cussons on 07720 629186.

Dinner time

FINGERS crossed it won't come to be seen as the Last Supper, but despite all the uncertainty surrounding the Minstermen the club are still pressing ahead with a Sporting Dinner next month.

It will be staged in the Ebor Suite of York Racecourse on Thursday, February 7.

Former Huddersfield Town, Bolton, Leeds, Southampton and England legend Frank Worthington will be the special guest.

Tickets are priced £29 and can be purchased on an individual basis or for tables of ten.

Bonjour, Tel

YORK City boss Terry Dolan went back to school this week as the build-up to next week's eagerly anticipated FA Cup clash with Fulham got underway.

With Fulham's Gallic connections obvious, Sky TV whisked the City chief off to All Saints' RC School to film him sitting in on a French lesson.

Not quite sure how Dolan fared, but he should be greeting Jean Tigana with at the very least a 'bonjour' next Saturday.
