THE title race in John Smith's Sunday Football League division two is hotting up.

Second-placed Derwent United lost 2-1 at home to Blacksmiths Arms, Glen Hinds and Mike Heels scoring for Blacksmiths.

Selby Olympia, who with games in hand are still in the promotion hunt, took full advantage as they thrashed Derwent Arms 8-1 with goals from Craig Hewitt (2), James Pearson (2), Durnin, Reasbeck, Ginty and Simon Hewitt. Anthony Luck netted the Derwent goal.

In division one, New Earswick won 3-2 at Pack of Cards with goals from Phil Hart, Neil Walker (penalty) and Kev Deighton. Neil Ducey netted twice for Pack.

A single goal from Dave Robinson virtually guaranteed Copman-thorpe's survival in division three with a 1-0 win at BH Colts.

Wilberfoss moved off the bottom for the first time this season with a 2-1 home win over Beeswing, who now find themselves at the foot of the table. Chris Hall scored both for Wilberfoss with Turbine netting for Beeswing.

Nestl Flag made it seven games without defeat with a 2-1 win at Bishopthorpe after Wright had given the home side the lead. Ross and O'Donnell turned things around to boost Flag's promotion hopes.

A James Siddle strike was enough to give York Nomads a 1-0 win over Keystones in division four.

Dave Bonner hit four, John Thornton scored his 40th of the season and Alex Preece added two more as Burnholme stayed in the division five title hunt with a 7-3 win at Greyhound for whom Paul Hegarty, Tim Kniveton and Paul Gardner were on target.

Leaders Opticare drew 1-1 at Volunteer Reserves. Matty Bastock netted for Opticare with Mark Levers replying for Volunteers.

The division six title race will be decided by the last game of the season when Hambleton tackle with Barlby Athletic a week on Sunday.

Barlby's narrow 1-0 win over CPP at the weekend, courtesy of a Paul Hughes goal, set up the big showdown.

Burton Stone ended their season on a high note with a 3-0 win over Beefeater. A goal in the first half from Pete Barass and a powerful drive from Ian Rudd set them on the way and a second for Barass after Beefeater had missed a penalty sealed victory.

London York and Heslington shared the points in a 2-2 draw. Usher and Geen were the Heslington scorers.
