MATCHWINNER Graham Potter helped safeguard York City's Football League status for a second successive season but insisted the Minstermen's campaign is far from over.

Potter's 73rd minute goal, his first of 2002, was enough to banish City's fear of relegation once and for all, irrespective of the fact Halifax's fate was sealed with a 5-0 defeat at Darlington.

Potter, who also scored the goal that helped lift City clear of relegation last season, admitted it was a relief to have finally ended the lingering doubts.

But with five games still left to play he insisted City had already readjusted their sights and were looking to climb the table.

"It's massive a relief to be safe," he conceded. "I'd like to make a habit of scoring in January to put us safe then rather than hanging on until April.

"But I'm happy whenever I score a goal and especially when it's the winner."

He added: "We are safe but that is not it, we have still got five games to go which is a lot.

"We will only enjoy them if we get the right results and with five games to go if we do get the right results then we can still achieve a very respectable position.

"We certainly won't be relaxing. We are professional footballers and we want to go out and win all our games. No one wants to lose football matches. With our home games in hand we want to get as far up the table as possible."
