THE victim of a hate campaign fears he could be killed unless he moves following another brick attack on his York home.

The 46-year-old man has suffered at the hands of thugs for the past 18 months, in what he believes is a revenge campaign after he confronted vandals on his neighbour's property.

Now he says he is at breaking point and ready to put the house up for sale after vandals smashed his front window with a brick, while he was inside.

The man, who does not want to named, has had 13 windows broken and two attempted burglaries at his home in the Hull Road area. He has also been spat at and had abused hurled at him.

"I was so shocked," he said, "half the house is now boarded up - they've caused considerable damage.

"I'm despairing - I want to move because I can't put up with it anymore."

The man has received a letter from York MP Hugh Bayley, who he visited to discuss his plight.

Mr Bayley has written to York police chief John Lacy to see what can be done to help him, and raised the possibility of setting up a neighbourhood watch scheme in the area.

The man has called for a bigger police presence on the streets, CCTV in the residential area and the closure of the alleyways that are used as an escape route by the culprits.

He said: "My elderly parents were due to come and see me at the weekend, but I had to make up some excuse for them not to. The shock of a brick coming through the window would kill my mother.

"It has ruined the last eighteen months of my life.

"I want these scumbags caught and punished appropriately."

A spokeswoman for York police said two officers had attended the man's house following the incident and an investigation was under way.
