A classic derby encounter saw Nestl Rowntree RUFC just denied by Malton and Norton III 19-18.

Malton had the early pressure with 'Trees full-back Harry Seagrave making three try-saving tackles, before the visitors finally crossed for a try and conversion from Peter Hartley.

Nestl hit back with a superb forward's try from lock Graeme Lavender, with Jamie Richardson tagging on the conversion and two penalties to give them a 13-7 lead.

Good Malton handing saw winger Richard Corner race in for a try converted by Hartley, while No8 Colin Logan broke away to give them a 19-13 lead.

'Trees No8 Jim Bell replied immediately with a try from a line out, but the conversion attempt and a late penalty both sailed agonisingly wide.
