TWO junior sides from York are set for the experience of a lifetime after they qualified to for the final stages of Prudential Cup at Twickenham.
York Under-10s and Under-12s will travel to the home of English rugby on May 26 for the semi-final and hopefully final of the prestigious junior rugby competition.
And in an added bonus for the young hopefuls, their matches will be held as part of the England v Barbarians fixture to be played on the same day.
The U12s booked their place in the semis after coming through their six qualifying matches at Nottingham University unbeaten.
A nervy 0-0 draw against Westcliff was followed by a superb 30-0 rout of Weymouth, courtesy of tries from Frank (2), Hawking - who had ended the first game in the back of an ambulance - Watson, Ashman and Harrison.
Rosslyn Park were the next to fall, with Milligan, Ashman and Batchelor (2) setting up a 20-0 win. Batchelor was on the scoreboard again as he and Leigh crossed in the 10-0 victory over Wimbourne.
The final match saw a titanic battle against Fullerians, but the tackling and speed of York was just too good as they won 5-0, Milligan scoring the only try.
The U10s also came through six matches at Nottingham University, but they had to overcome a 15-0 opening defeat against Bath.
The York youngsters showed tremendous spirit to win all of their remaining matches - scoring 13 tries and conceding just one - to qualify.
The U12s achieved an extra special victory just prior to their cup involvement as they toppled Yorkshire champions and local rivals Malton and Norton 28-14.
A full preview to York's attempt to capture the Prudential Cup at Twickenham will be published soon in your Evening Press.
Fluent U-14s
YORK RUFC won the Pocklington Under-14s sevens competition on Sunday.
They beat Pocklington, a Barbarians side, Bridlington and Beverley on an unbeaten run scoring 92 points and conceding only ten.
This came after a two good wins against Middlesborough and Swindon at the Nottingham Festival earlier in the week.
