WINNERS and players sampled a silverware tonic at the Hunters the estate agent York and District Indoor Cricket League presentation ceremony at York Brewery.

Rowntrees 'A' team player Paul Horner received the most votes gaining a total of 32 points to win the First Division bowling award. His seasonal bag of 15 wickets has only been exceeded once in the history of the League, while his runs per over rate of 5.97 was the best of the season.

Horner's bowling average was 13.73 and, having also made 146 runs and taken seven catches, he also figured in the divisional all-rounder category where he came second.

The winner of this award was Acomb's Richard Sykes. He made 289 runs, claimed seven wickets and broke the fielding record for the League when he took 12 catches and claimed one stumping for a total of 13, thus breaking the previous record of 11 which was jointly held by 'keepers Brian Shirley and Bill Carter who set their marks in 1985-87.

Sheriff Hutton Bridge's Steve Crowder was the runaway winner of the first division batting award when his 300 runs at an average of 60.00 earned him twice as many votes as his brother Peter who was runner-up.

Stillington's John Carr took two honours when he won both the second division bowling award and the all-rounder prize. He claimed 13 wickets at 18.62 with a run rate of 7.15 in the bowling category, whilst his 234 runs and four catches enabled him to add his second award. He just pipped Thirsk's Darren Wyrill, who, in addition to making 292 runs, also created three league records by making the fastest ever 25 (off three legitimate balls), the fastest ever 50 (off 12 balls) and the highest number of catches (12) in division two.

Consolation for the Wyrill family came, however, when Des Wyrill was awarded the second division batting award for his 343 runs at an average of 68.40.

This was Des's fifth batting award in the 16-year history of the Indoor League.

The presentations were made by John Waterhouse, Sarah Fuller and Vanessa Render of the league's sponsors, Hunters the estate agent.
