THEY may be 50 years old, but some of the decorations going up at Castle Howard this summer are as bright and patriotic as ever.

Original bunting and flags which festooned the streets of Malton during the Coronation in 1952 have been found in an attic in the town.

And surprised householder John Coates, who made the discovery, thought he would ask his boss if they wanted to use the antique banners.

Mr Coates, from Worsley Court, has worked at Castle Howard for almost ten years.

And the flags and bunting will be on prominent display as celebrations for the Golden Jubilee get under way at the stately home.

A host of events on a Royal theme have been organised to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Queen's accession.

"Queen Victoria and Prince Albert" will be visiting over the Jubilee weekend from Saturday June 1 to Tuesday 4, replica Crown Jewels used during the rehearsal of the Coronation are on display, and there will also be a Victorian Sideshow Circus alongside many other special events.
