A GROUP of young pavement artists took the opportunity to show off their winning talents in the centre of York.
The eight winners of the Jorvik and Evening Press Kid's Viking Street Art competition translated their artwork onto the pavement in St Mary's Square.
The creative kids aged between seven and 11 from five schools around the city were some of over 150 competition entrants.
The challenge was to create a picture with a seafaring theme to celebrate Jorvik's Viking Voyagers exhibition.
The winners used chalks to create their pictures on the city's pavements assisted by York artists Peter Douglas and Milladio, aka Andy Hinkles.
The colourful work attracted large crowds and was judged by a civic party led by Lord Mayor Councillor Irene Waudby.
The pictures, which include Vikings, warriors at sea and even a Viking settlement, have been put on display at the centre.
