John Haw won the Carpvale open angling match on Sunday with a level 39lb.

Drawn to fish from peg 11 he began on the method feeder with maggot, but after landing a carp early in the match his peg 'died'.

Out of desperation he tried a near line with corn and found the fish were literally swimming under the platform. He went on to hussle out 10 more carp to 7lb for his winning net.

Bernard Guy (East End Park) has been in a rich vein of form and his run continued with 31lb 8oz from peg one.

Fishing pole tight to the island he rang the changes with the menu taking carp, tench and chub on meat, corn and worm.

Others: Mick Eardley (Armley Angling) 29-0-0; Dave Maddison (York) 22-2-0; Tony Hewson (Armley Angling) 20-6-0.

Kev Worth (Castleford) won Sunday's 29 entry match at Raker with a rather unusual bait.

Drawn to be at peg six he fished pole both tight to the far bank at 16 metres and then down the ledge at 12 metres when the wind picked up.

His all carp catch of 42lb 9oz included fish to 4lb and all were taken with mussels as hookbait.

Norman Dixon (Anglers Corner) was at form peg 21 and used pole and bread to the far corner for his all carp bag of 34lb 9oz.

Jack Ferguson (Preston Innovations) finished third with 30lb 9oz from peg 18.

Others: Oliver Hewitt (Team Gem) 24-15-0; Dave Geldart (Leeds) 23-1-0.

There was another tight match at the Willows on Saturday, with the prizes in the 42 entry competition evenly distributed between those fishing at Goldrush and at Ridge Pool.

Keith Gray (Anglers World) had best weight from Ridge Pool, from peg 14 on the edge of the bay. Feeding pellets and alternating between maggot and worm hookbaits he netted some quality carp to 5lb plus ide and tench to 2lb for his level 35lb net.

Over on Goldrush, Andy Rymer (Dam Brighouse Geers) was at peg 54 and used pole with pellets and maggot for a mixed bag of carp, tench and ide weighing 31lb.

Others: Dave Pollit (Hirst Tackle) 29-10-0; Marjorie Harrison (JT Rogers) 29-8-0; Mick Lodge (Dick Clegg Ossett) 27-0-0; Ian Swarbeck (Roadline AC) 25-4-0.
