HONOURS were spread around at the York Schools' Chess Championship at St Olave's School with Manor, Dringhouses and Clifton Green all winning team awards.
There were four main events - an Under-9s, Under-11s and Under-14s, as well as a beginners event.
The Under-9s event was won by Josh Wilson (Clifton Green). Second was Sam Hudson (Aspin Park, Knaresborough) and third place went to six-year old Elliot Warrinor-Baln (Lord Deramore).
Merit Awards went to Max Fowler (Scarcroft) and Abigail Carter (Ebor).
The top team award for this section was won by Clifton Green with Dringhouses second and a merit award to Oliver Crabb (St Olave's)
The Under-11 section was won by Robert Murray (Bishop Monkton) with Henry Bradley (Ebor) second and Fred Woodcock (Scarcroft) third.
Merit awards went to Jonathon Burr (Scarcroft) and Daisy Bedford (Ebor).
The top team in this section was Dringhouses with Ebor second. Further awards were given to Ian Suchem (Clifton Green), James Roeder (Ebor) and Ashley Branon-Garr (Clifton Green).
The Under-14 section was won by Tom Anderson (Canon Lee) with Chris Somerville (Manor) and Fergus Sinclair-Howse (Ampleforth College) joint-second. A merit award went to Richard Allis (Oaklands) and the top team was Manor with Ampleforth College second.
Other awards went to Edward White (Manor) and David Edwards (Ampleforth College).
The beginners section was won by Kyle Billsborough (Clifton Green) with Jean-Luc Wener (Scarcroft) and Jason Lawn (Ebor) joint-second. Merit awards went to
Pierre Wellor (Scarcroft), Carl Jefferson (Clifton Green) and Chris Blackwood (Aspin Park).
CRICKET
THE first round ties in both the Under-12 and the Under-14 Cup competitions are due to be completed tomorrow.
