A GROUP of women - and one man - from a York healthcare society will be parading their underwear through the dark streets of London to raise money for cancer charities.

Intrepid volunteers from Benenden Healthcare Society plan to power walk up to 26 miles around the capital as part of the annual Moonwalk event.

Team members will walk either a "half moon" 13 miles or a "full moon" 26 miles during the event, which begins in Battersea Park at midnight on Saturday.

Ten women from the Tadcaster Road-based society will be walking in bras to raise money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and the Bristol Cancer Help Centre.

They will join 10,000 women and a few men from all over the country in the charity marathon, organised by health charity Walk The Walk.

Walker Teresa Mullarkey said: "I have always wanted to wear my underwear on the outside like Madonna - now I've got a worthy excuse." The group hopes to raise between £1,000 and £1,500 in sponsorship for cancer charities.
