MY sincere apologies to those motorists who may have been annoyed recently at my use of the northbound A19/A64 intersection roundabouts in a manner prescribed in the Highway Code and in the way that I have for several years.

It seems the road layout has recently changed so the roundabout lanes now criss-cross each other in a potentially dangerous manner - when they are not gridlocked by confused and frustrated drivers.

There are two warning road signs, if you can spot them among 12 others on the northbound approach between the superfluous new crash barrier and the first roundabout, but they give no warning and are directly close to the misleading road surface arrows.

Perhaps this enlightened road engineer had a hand in Copmanthorpe, the Barlby cycle lanes (what are the green patches for?) the filter lane in Gowthorpe, Selby, etc.

So, I'll apologise again this time to the other set of drivers who fail to obey the new signs and use the normally correct lane to go straight across a roundabout when I now do it the new way and cut them up to re-enter the left lane to go into York.

Ralph Squires,

Westbourne Road, Selby.
