WORK began yesterday on building a new Dixon Car Clinic at Clifton Moor which will create seven new jobs when it opens in June.

The body repair facility will take six weeks to build in an existing unit in Kettlestring Lane and occupying about 18,000 sq ft will be much larger than the Car Clinic on the site of the former Derwent Coachworks in Osbaldwick, which it replaces.

Dixon says the Clifton Moor body repair facility will have the latest technology and it is more centrally positioned to support other Dixon retail sites in the city.

Since the facility came to Osbaldwick in June last year business has grown steadily, said a Dixon spokesperson. "The move to the new premises is the next step in the Car Clinic's development. When it is ready at the end of June, the existing team of 13 will re-locate and seven new jobs will be created."

John Pattison, general manager of the Car Clinic said: "The new site is great news for our customers in York - a better location, bigger premises and near to the other Dixon dealerships. I'm looking forward to a larger team."

Meanwhile, Dixon Nissan of Centurion Park, Clifton Moor has opened a "business to business centre".

It is one of 34 set up throughout the UK to cater for the business community's transport logistics needs.

Andrew Thompson, fleet sales manager for the franchise at Centurion Park, said: "We will be advising on all matters relating to business transport such as contract hire, leasing, opting out schemes and light commercial vehicles.

"We will also be providing commercial courtesy vehicles to firms which leave their transport with us for servicing or repair, with Thursday nights reserved for late-night business servicing so that firms can keep the show on the road.
