FANS of the TV series Hornblower are in for a treat with the arrival of a nautical star of the small screen.

The Grand Turk, the square-rigged fighting frigate which became HMS Indefatigable for the series, is to visit Whitby again.

The 22-cannon ship, which was completed in 1997, will sail into port on Wednesday, May 29.

Visitors will be able to sample what life was like for sailors in the 18th century with on-board displays until the ship sets sail again on June 14.

Captain Ian Macdougal, who has been with the vessel since it was launched in Turkey five years ago, said the whole crew were looking forward to their arrival in Whitby next week.

He said: "We are all very excited because we had such a super time last year.

"We are hoping there will be the same enthusiasm because all the people of Whitby treated us so well." Captain Macdougal and his crew, who have featured on the small screen in Britain and America, are due to leave for Brittany at the end of the summer to feature in a film on the life of Napoleon.

The Grand Turk will be open to the public every day between 10am and 6pm from May 30 to June 14. Tickets cost £4 and £2 concessions and family tickets are £10.
