I RAN in the Race for Life on the Knavesmire, or more truthfully, I toddled round at the rear. It was a very cheerful event, and I only experienced one small disappointment. I had been hoping to find ten or a dozen other antiques who would toddle along with me, but they didn't seem to be there.
Like Liz Todd ('This race is for everyone', May 20), I was briefly saddened when I saw very young looking women running in memory of Mum, and I am wondering now whether next year it would be possible with the help of the Evening Press to organise an Ancient's Brigade (say 70 to 90) of those of us who have already enjoyed a long life.
I only joined in myself because I read in the Press that one was allowed to walk the whole way and I began nervously, but there is nothing to fear if one still has reasonable stamina. There are marshals everywhere who would soon help one out if one needed them.
