QUEEN Margaret's School, Escrick, enjoyed a double triumph in the North Yorkshire English Schools Athletics Cup.

In only their third year of competition, Queen Margaret's won both junior and intermediate girls team events.

The competition involves a maximum of 12 girls competing in up to 26 events, but no girl can enter more than two events. Each event is measured on points which are accumulated over the day.

The intermediate team amassed 297 points which was only 20 points short of last year's national finalists.

Queen Margaret's will now represent North Yorkshire against Northumberland and Cumbria in the North of England Championships next month.

The York and District Schools' Athletics Trials were being held at Huntington Stadium this afternoon.

The North Yorkshire County Championships will be held on Saturday, June 15 at Huntington Stadium (noon).

FOOTBALL

WOODTHORPE will play either Wigginton or Clifton Green in the final of the York Primary Cup.

They booked their place in the final with a 1-0 win over Robert Wilkinson, Strensall, in the semi-final.

Billy Gregory scored four goals in Robert Wilkinson's 6-0 semi-final win over Dringhouses in the quarter-final.

BOSTON Spa Comprehensive School enjoyed their own football glee party down by the Riverside.

The School - Don Revie Cup holders and Leeds Schools' Champion of Champions winners - finished runners-up in the Coca-Cola Northern Schools' cup final at Middlesbrough's Riverside ground.

Boston Spa's year eight ranks held their composure to edge out Humberside's Toll Bar School in extra time of the semi-finals before they were eventually beaten 4-2 in the final by Newsome School (Huddersfield).

The Boston ranks comprised Ben Saynor, Chris Obison, Phil Wilkinson, Jonathan Reynolds, Matthew Gouland, Huw Roberts-Harry, Ben Dagworthy, Shaun Birch, Kyle Whitakar, Michael Elliot, Matty Brighton, Ricky Watson, David Ashe, Chris Wood, Sam Bryant, and year seven student Bobby Melia.
