IN your article about Melissa Loosemore's difficulty in persuading bus drivers that she is young enough to pay half fare, I notice her mother believes she cannot obtain a Yozone proof of age card until her 14th birthday.

This is not so.

Although the main purpose of the card is to enable children in the 14 to 16 age group to continue travelling at half fare on local bus services, City of York Council has always been willing to issue them to younger children on request if it helps them avoid the sort of difficulties Melissa is reported to have encountered.

If Melissa, her mother, or other families with children in a similar position, would like to contact us at the council's transport planning unit in St Leonard's Place we will be happy to arrange for them to receive Yozone cards as soon as possible.

No charge is made for the card but applicants are required to supply a passport-style photograph and complete a simple application form which enables us to verify their age.
