A MOVEABLE mystery will be taking to York's streets to tell the story of how things were in the beginning.
Specially-made wagons will be in use when the York Mystery Plays are being presented by the city's historic guilds this summer.
The first play in the cycle is the Story Of Creation, whose all-important set - including the miraculous story of the creation of fishes, birds and animals, and the treacherous tree of knowledge - is being designed and built by the Guild of Builders.
And, as can be seen from this picture, the guild has provided a sneak preview of what its members have created through their visual and practical skills and experience, with a demonstration of the set for the first play.
The set will be on public display again when the plays take to the streets on Sunday, July 7, and Sunday, July 14.
The wagons are being used to recreate the way the plays were presented to the public in mediaeval times.
