PAT and Maureen Walker beat Betty Richardson and Linda Harrison by two shots to take the Emily Barnard Two-Wood Pairs Trophy for the first time.

Twenty pairs played a round robin to determine who would take part in the quarter-finals and all eight ladies who entered from Clarence Gardens qualified to play in the quarter finals.

The final was played over 15 ends with the Walkers just having the edge. They led 11-6 after ten ends and although their opponents fought back they won 13-11 and crowned a fine day which saw them play a total of 74 ends.

Earlier the Walkers were too strong for their Clarence Gardens club-mates Lynne Tattersall and Pauline Cooper over the 11 ends in the quarter finals, winning 11-8.

That set up a semi-final showdown with Betty Thompson and Barbara Maidment who were lying game with one bowl to be played. Maureen Walker picked up the jack and took it to one of the woods to win a tight match 11-9 and a place in the final against Richardson/Harrison, 12-7 semi-final victors over Marjorie Elvidge and Hazel Knapton.

In their quarter-final, Richardson and Harrison defeated Pat Bracken and Maureen Robinson.

Gina Newton and June Ogden (Clarence) led Shipton's Barbara Maidment and Betty Thompson 6-2 after six ends in their quarter-final but of a three on the last end gave Maidment and Thompson victory.

Elvidge, who won the competition last year with Pat Wilson, teamed up with Knapton this year and defeated Ann Illingworth and Carol Pink 11-6 in their quarter-final meeting.
