I DID not want my year of office to pass without writing formally to thank all at the Evening Press for the support they have given me in the last 12 months.
Your reporters and photographers have, without exception, been courteous, interested and professional when covering civic events.
I am sure the number of events covered must have taxed their imaginations to find a new angle for a story, or a different way of photographing me!
They have never disappointed when I saw the final results in the Evening Press. I offer special thanks for all the help we received with our charity fundraising events such as the Meander and the St Valentine's Ball.
When I had the pleasure of giving John Shannon his Honorary Freedom of the City he gave his usual incisive commentary in his speech of thanks.
During that speech he said while the council records of the past formed the essential York archive, the modern history of York is to be read in the Evening Press. Praise, but much deserved.
Councillor Irene Waudby,
Rt Hon The Lord Mayor of York,
The Mansion House, York.
