YORK Acorn ARL 'A' player-coaches Kev Warters and Mick Lumby will hope to bow out in style as their side take on New Earswick All Blacks in the York Accident Cup final tomorrow.

This final, to be played at New Earswick's White Rose Avenue ground (kick off 2.30pm), will be their last game in charge of Acorn's second string after nearly 40 years of service to the club between them.

They also have the added incentive to enjoy final glee having lost out in their previous final appearance when Acorn 'A' were beaten by Castleford Panthers 'A' in the Yorkshire League division four play-offs last year.

Warters, 39, has been a player with the Blue and Golds since he was 16, and has also coached the 'A' team for five years. Lumby, a player for about 15 years, has had three seasons of coaching. Both are now stepping down, Lumby because of family commitments after his girlfriend had a baby.

Warters said: "I've been involved with the club for 23 years and it has been a long time. I started a new job not long ago and it has taken its toll. To be honest I need a break. I'm still on the club committee, though, and I plan to come back refreshed next year in whatever capacity is needed."
