- Legend at Watford where he holds both appearance and scoring records - 415 and 158 respectively - in three spells.

- Key factor in the Hornets' rapid rise through the lower divisions, when former York City boss John Ward was among his team-mates, to second place behind Liverpool in 1982-83 Championship.

- Netted 27 goals that season included four in club record 8-0 home win over Sunderland on September 25, 1982.

Won first of 14 England caps the following month when appearing as substitute in 2-1 Wembley defeat at hands of West Germany

Scored a hat-trick on his England appearance v Luxembourg in 9-0 win on December 15, becoming the first coloured player to score for England.

- High profile move to Italian giants AC Milan followed in the summer but returned to Watford after a year in Serie A.

- Failed to score in his last dozen appearances for the national side and was dubbed 'Luther Missit' by some of the tabloids. Last England appearance on June 2, 1984, a 2-0 defeat by the Soviet Union at Wembley.

- After a spell in the lower divisions and in non-League football returned to senior football in 1996 with Watford when he was assistant to former team-mate Kenny Jackett at Vicarage Road.
