WILBERFOSS third team won their first match since they entered the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League two years ago when they beat Appleton Roebuck 58-50.

George Penrose and Lisa Turner started their team's win with a 9-3 first rubber, followed by Darren Penrose and Dinah Burke consolidating the winning margin with a 11-1 scoreline.

Third pair John Duggleby and Liz Walker provided solid backup to edge the points.

Escrick head the division with four wins out of four just ahead of unbeaten Nestl after Sutton-on-Derwent were unable to raise a team.

Poppleton still head division one after beating Dunnington 77-31 to move ahead of last year's champions York, who heavily defeated Stillington 83-25. York were led by Andy Cooke and Wendy Shepherd, who just outscored Steve Smith and Margaret Whitehead.

Things were tighter in the top-flight's other game, with Fulford just creeping past their Tadcaster rivals 59-49.

Poppleton have taken over the top spot in division two after beating Sherburn 69-39 with Richard Cantrell and Sue Peach winning all three rubbers for 26 games.

York seconds and thirds clashed and provided a close result with the seconds edging the win 56-52, thanks to Nick Linfoot and Kathryn Place winning 25 games despite the best efforts of Neil Giltrap and Karen Retief for the thirds.

Rowntree Park went to Civil Service with both teams looking for their first win, but it was Rowntree who took home the points with a 71-37 victory, Paul Adams and Sandra Pauw proving too hot to handle winning 29 games.

York and Poppleton met in division three with both teams looking for their first win but it was York who took the points with a 64-44 scoreline. Peter Sutherland and Carmel Parry won 24 games with their first pair of Mike Melsom and Julie McNeill equalling their team-mate's efforts.

Tollerton edged into third place with a 57-51 win against Riccall after a close match headed by unbeaten Martin Thornton and Jean Thompson.

Wheldrake still head division four after 64-44 and 71-37, wins against Strensall and Cawood respectively.

Wheldrake are now just ahead of the only other unbeaten team, Dunnington, who beat Strensall 63-45 for whom Phil Spencer and Linda Molloy top-scored with 25 games.

Appleton Roebuck won their first match at Wigginton with Matthew Killgallon and Judy Marriott leading the way with 28 games.

Fulford are the only unbeaten team in division five after their fixture at Stillington, winning 63-45 in a good team effort despite Stillington's Ken Stirk and Christine Cookman who were unbeaten.

Riccall eased away from the bottom after they beat New Earswick 62-46.

Division six is led by Heworth who returned to winning ways beating Cawood 66-42 with Alan Bradshaw and Chris Vis topping the scoring with 27 games.

Poppleton won their game last week at Appleton Roebuck with James Mason and Dee Robinson top-scoring with 25 games.

Fulford are in third place on games difference after their close encounter with Wigginton, winning 55-53. The points were sealed by Paul Ruff and Beryl Bean winning their final rubber 11-1.

Dunnington won their first match 55-53 against Rowntree Park, despite Mitch Wright and Sandra Robinson winning 24 games.

Division seven is led by the only unbeaten team, Civil Service after they beat Bishopthorpe 61-47 in a competitive match. Andrew Lawrence and Anne Jackson winning their second rubber 11-1 to seal the win.

Rufforth's Andy Ivel and Judith Evans led the scoring to seal their team's win against Tollerton and move into second place, but they could not beat the unbeaten pair of Rob Brown and Anne Thompson.

The clash of the week in division eight was between unbeaten York and Bubwith.

York emerged the winners to end Bubwith's unbeaten run since entering the League. Both teams were at full strength with York winning six of the nine rubbers for a 65-43 victory.

Wilberfoss have moved into third after their win against Riccall in a match of fluctuating fortunes, but were led by Ged McTernan and Roz Latham who won 31 games.

The two teams promoted to division nine last year met with Fulford coming out on top 64-44 against Wheldrake with the new pairing of Terry Haw and Georgina Worley proving too experienced for the opposition to take 29 games.

Fulford kept their 100 per cent record with a win at Tollerton by the same score.

Cliffe have ousted Selby from second spot after the teams clashed with Cliffe coming out on top 63-45 and then beating Tollerton 63-45 and Civil Service 62-46 on consecutive nights.
