PRINTER Philip Bell is preparing to go the extra mile for charity - because of his love for entertainer Bonnie Langford.

Philip, 46, of Westfield Place, Acomb, has spent thousands of pounds travelling to see the flame-haired star over the last 17 years in shows across the country.

He has also amassed a huge collection of Bonnie memorabilia, including programmes, posters and show tickets.

Philip, who travels to the performances with his mother, is now doing a sponsored bike ride to raise money for Bonnie's chosen charity, which helps disabled children. He will cycle 408 miles from Edinburgh to Bristol.

"I read about Cornelia Dlange Syndrome in a programme and felt I wanted to do something to help," Philip said.

"I've been to see Bonnie more than 40 times in pantomimes and variety shows," said Philip, who works at print firm RR Donnelleys. "I must be her number one fan. She's so talented."

Bonnie shot to fame as a multi-talented child performer and went on to co-star in Doctor Who and various variety shows.

Bonnie told the Evening Press: "This is a lovely surprise.

"It's always great to see Phil and his mum Betty at my shows."
