YORKSHIRE'S hottest star Dean Smith (MAP Elton) won the Kamasan event at the Oaks last Thursday with 39lb 4oz.

Drawn on lucky peg 13 on Maple he worked the island edge at 13 metres with pellet and cat meat for small carp to a pound. Rab Ogilvie (Oaks) was on 37 where he used pellets at 13 and four metres for an all carp 38lb

Others: Roger Holmes (MAP Elton) 37-12-0, Steve Medd (Billingham Tackle Box) 37-4-0, Mark Coyne (Daiwa Cleveland ) 36-12-0 and Rob Minikin (Harrogate Angling Supplies) 34-14-0.

Sunday saw 61 angelers on the same lake where the biggest surprise was Smith's slump in form to third place.

John McGarrel (MAP Elton) took the honours from peg 56. Fishing punched cat meat both across and down the middle he bagged carp to 4lb for his 50lb 9oz. Ian Bowman (Maver Barnsley) was second with a 43lb 2oz pellet-caught carp haul from peg 50.

Others: Dean Smith (MAP Elton) 41-8-0, Gary Pawlett (Oaks) 39-12-0, Andy Stoner (Merlin Baits) 33-0-0 and Nigel Hargreaves (MAP Elton) 31-12-0.

Thunderstorms and driving rain hampered the 40 peg open at Carpvale where Mark Wade (Armley Angling) was the only angler to really get among the fish.

Drawn on peg 11 he worked the far side island with the floating pole. Alternating between cat meat and corn he netted a dozen quality carp for his 66lb 4oz.

Paul Clarke (Hirst Tackle) fished open water from peg 19 and switched between chopped worm and cat meat for a mixed bag of six carp and three bream scaling 23lb 12oz.

Others: Mark Eardley (Richmond) 23-0-0, Graham Bradley (York) 18-10-0, John Sykes (Leeds) 14-14-0 and Dave Maddison (York) 14-4-0.

The 25-entry Wednesday Open went to Dave Wright (Armley Angling) who is in unstoppable form at present. Drawn on peg 15 he fished pole and worm at 10 metres into open water for five bream and six carp scaling a round 55lb.

The consistent Dave Maddison (York) was second from peg nine where he fished method feeder and corn to the island for an all carp 39lb 4oz.

Wayne Smith (Hull) landed 35lb 8oz.

Goldrush was the place to draw this week at the Willows as pegs on the larger of the two lakes dominated both events at the Willows.

Tony Hewson (Armley Angling) led from peg 33 on Tuesday evening. Fishing pole and pellet at nine metres he topped the 34-entry with a 24lb 7oz net of small carp. Mick Addinall (Team Dobin) took second with 22lb 8oz of bigger carp to pole and meat from peg 52.

Others: Steve Hodson (RSPS) 18-0-0, Stuart Thompson (Armley Angling) 15-8-0, Mick Lodge (Dick Clegg Ossett) 15-5-0, Neil Rymer (Dam Brighouse Geers) 14-15-0.

Mick Lodge (Dick Clegg Ossett) won from corner peg 42 on Saturday. Fishing up in the water with casters he used the cover of the large willow tree to lure a level 31lb of ide and odd skimmers. Stuart Thompson (Armley Angling) was second from peg 50 where he used maggots and pellets for a mixed net of chub, carp and orfe scaling 28lb 9oz

Others: Ian Swarbrick (Roadline) 26-9-0, Ian Walker (Lower Wharfe Angling) 26-0-0, Marjorie Harrison (JT Rogers) 24-7-0 and Andy Rymer (Dam Brighouse Geers) 24-2-0.

The opening match at Tollerton Ponds proved encouraging with Buck Taylor winning with a fine net of 41lb 14oz from peg 13 on Spring Lake. Fishing pole and caster at just three metres he included tench to 3lb plus small carp and quality roach. Stuart Thompson and Colin Sherwood both fished pellet for mixed nets of 33lb 2oz and 32lb 4oz.

Others: Alan Atkinson 27-14-0, Andy Skelton 24-8-0 and Tom Chapman 19-4-0.
