ALDBY Park and Bubwith are the early pace setters in the Foss Evening Cricket League with both unbeaten after three games.

Aldby Park appear determined to take the crown this summer after narrowly losing out to Yapham last year.

When the two teams came head to head they produced a high-scoring game.

Bubwith's David Ogram (82) and Paul Clark (32) helped to post a formidable 162-3 to boost hopes of victory.

However, Aldby Park put up a magnificent reply with Andy Milner hitting a splendid unbeaten 117 with good support from James Postill (39).

Aldby reached their target and recorded a nine-wicket victory over the champions.

Bubwith struggled to 84-4 with Neil Pratt top-scoring with 22 and Kev Hinch collecting 2-26. Pocklington looked set for victory as Martin Newsom (28) and Kev Hinch (20) put together a productive partnership but Paul Hemingway struck to take 4-22 to enable Bubwith to run out victors by four runs.

Heworth collected their first points of the season as they inflicted a 47-run defeat on bottom of the table Stamford Bridge.

R Winterburn (31no) and G Hogan (28no) led Heworth to 108-3. D Walton 3-34 struck early as Stamford struggled to 61-6 with only Ian Fraser (35no) offering any resistance.

In division two Wilberfoss have set their stall out for an early return to the top division with three convincing victories, their latest win being a ten-wicket defeat over Middleton.

The visitors reached 86-2 with Steve Wilson contributing an unbeaten 48. Wilberfoss openers Geoff Room (57) and Paul Stothard (30), had little difficulty in reaching their target.

All matches in the first round of the Edward Readman Memorial Trophy on Sunday were washed out.

Clubs have been asked by York and District Senior Cricket League secretary Albert Pattison to arrange for the games to be played before the second round which is scheduled on Sunday, June 23.
