THE fortunes of the rising bollard are on the up. York's first, on Stonebow, was ridiculed and reviled by motorists.
It depth-bombed a number of vehicles before succumbing to more faults than Britain's air traffic control system.
But the people of Victor Street, Bishophill, saw something in the beleaguered bollard that they liked.
And soon they will have one of their own, to fight back against rat-running drivers.
The upwardly-mobile bollard has been given a second chance. If this one proves to be a success, who knows? They may start popping up all over the place.
