THE extended weekend provided by the Jubilee celebrations provided some golden angling moments around the region.

At Carpvale, it was the Monday match which captured the headlines with Mark Wade winning with the season's second ton-up haul.

Drawn on peg six, he soon had the carp feeding on the surface with regular feeding of floating trout pellets.

Fishing tight to the far side snags with popped up bread flake, he blitzed the field with over 30 fish for his huge 116lb 12oz net.

Mick Laverack led the futile chasing pack from peg 12, where he used method feeder and meat for around a dozen carp weighing in at 55lb 4oz.

Other leading weights in what proved to be one of the best matches of the year so far were taken by Barbara Jeffries with 49lb 6oz, Steve Harman with 36lb, Mick Brind 35lb 8oz and Johnny Haw 34lb 2oz.

The Front Pond was also in celebratory mood with some right royal catches.

Grant Sellars led the field with a mixed net of small carp and bream from peg 69 weighing 59lb 7oz.

Pole, with cat meat and pellets fished into the corner reeds, proved the successful method.

Chris Marlborough with 37lb, Rob Eden 34lb 7oz and Steve Hanson 34lb were the supporting cast.

The York Amalgamation Committee match saw a dozen tackle the fickle waters of Park View where nine troubled the scales.

It was odd bream that took the honours. Brian Deamer included a slab of 5lb 10oz in his 6lb winning net while committee stalwart Walt Brown tempted his only fish of 5lb 7oz to ease into the runners-up spot.

Bob Hutchinson with 3lb 6oz and Dave Findlay 3lb 5oz were the only other anglers to trouble the pounds column on the score card.

Steve Michaels topped the Bank Holiday Monday open at the Willows with a fine net of 41lb 8oz, which was top of a string of good weights from the prolific Golodrush Pool.

Drawn on the point at peg 38, he used and chopped worm at ten metres for a string of small carp, ide and tench.

Close by on 35 was Tony Hewson, who fished pole and pellet for carp, tench, skimmers and ide totalling 37lb 12oz.

Linda Edmonson, of Elvington, showed her partner Neil a thing or two on a recent visit to Paradise Fishery at Melbourne.

Fishing waggler and maggot at close range on Pond Two, she hooked into a monster 12lb 4oz common carp which led her a merry dance before finally being netted after a lengthy struggle.
