YORK Under 17s were unable to continue their winning streak in the Joe Lumb Competition against Aire/Wharfedale U17s at Olicanian CC, Ilkley.

York, with two wins and one game rained off, fielded first and the opening attack of Noble (Dunnington) and Snell (Sheriff Hutton Bridge) bowled a tight line with the latter conceding only two runs in his first six-over spell.

However, the attack was restricted to four bowlers with Darwin unable to bowl and some lacklustre fielding allowed R Henry and B Silverthorne to take 91 runs from the last ten overs to bring the innings to a close at 222-6.

The pick of the York bowlers was Philip Aconley (Hovingham), who finished with 3-63.

York's reply got off to a good start with Guy Darwin (Bedale) and Leon Sacks (Acomb) putting on 91 for the first wicket before the latter was bowled for 33. Nathan Briggs (Clifton Alliance) and Darwin put on 45 for the second wicket before Briggs was caught at mid-wicket.

Darwin continued to plunder runs but no-one stuck with him and he was out in the 40th over after making 83, being bowled round his legs by Silverthorne.

Aconley rallied with a late 23 not out but the York innings petered out to 195 for 8.

Scores: Aire/Wharfedale 222-6 (R Henry 91no, B Silverthorne 40no; P Aconley 3-63) v York 195-8 (G Darwin 83, L Sacks 33, P Aconley 23no; B Silverthorne 5-41).
