MOTORISTS were delayed in York when a lorry became wedged under one of the city's historic gateways.
Queues of vehicles formed along Blossom Street and Nunnery Lane after a 7.5 tonne white box lorry was trapped in Micklegate Bar.
Nearby shop workers helped the driver free his vehicle after it became stuck at 3.30pm yesterday as the driver attempted to enter the city. Moneyspinners shop manager Richard Mason said an employee helped the driver free his vehicle by deflating the vehicle's front tyres.
City of York Council was investigating to find out if the monument had sustained any damage.
