Lago, who got off the mark at Beverley 10 days ago, returns to the same course tomorrow with excellent prospects of achieving an encore.

The Mick Easterby-trained gelding will again be tackling two miles in the 117th Year of the Watt Memorial Handicap and Dale Gibson again has the mount.

Lago, middle leg of an Easterby treble on his latest appearance, struck the front entering the final furlong and ran on strongly to beat Soon Or Late by two-and-a-half lengths.

The runner-up reopposes tomorrow and is entitled to every respect at the revised weights, but Lago remains open to further improvement and the Sheriff Hutton gelding is napped to do the double.

Steve Carson gained a notable success on Palace Affair at York last Friday and this talented young jockey has every chance chance of clinching Beverley's feature race tomorrow.

Carson teams-up with Royal Storm in the £12,000 Tote Exacta Handicap, and Amanda Perratt's Sussex raider has not made the long journey north simply for the good of his health.

A lightly-raced three-year-old, Royal Storm opened his winning account in pleasing style at Warwick last month when beating Sociable by a cosy half-length in a seven-furlongs maiden race.

He is open to any amount of improvement and a follow-up looks on the cards.

Richard Fahey, on cloud nine after winning Saturday's John Smith's Cup at York with Vintage Premium - just 24 hours after being presented to the Queen at Beverley, following his success with King's Crest in the race named in the Queen's honour - can continue his purple patch, courtesy of Portacasa.

The three-year-old lines-up for the Old Gravel Pits Allerthorpe Apprentice Handicap with Charlie Poste in the saddle.

Portacasa won over this course two outings ago and finished a good second to the useful Chivalry here last weekend. She can regain the winning thread.

At Brighton, a note should be made of Common Thought in the Mabel Patridge Memorial Handicap.

The Peter Harris-trained gelding has shown enough this summer to suggest this average event is within his scope.

The three-year-old is a stablemate of Kirovski, who failed by a whisker to land Saturday's John Smith's Cup on Knavesmire.
