A STRING of council services in York will be hit by Wednesday's strike action by public service unions, it was revealed today.

City of York Council is putting contingency plans in place to keep services available - but is hampered by not knowing exactly who will take action.

The central library and mobile library will be closed (although some

branch libraries will be open).

The Castle Museum and Yorkshire Museum will also be closed.

The Shambles car park will be closed. People are being urged to use alternative car parks or forms of transport and plan their journeys.

A number of schools will be affected and parents have been advised by the head teachers. They are: Carr Infant School (including the nursery);

Carr Junior School; Fulford Cross School (Special School); Lidgett Grove School (Special School); St Paul's Nursery School; Tang Hall Primary School Early Years Unit; Haxby Road - Foundation and Nursery; Galtres School (Special School) - where the school will be open but three classes will be closed; and Fishergate Primary School.

The council will provide updates as more details become available and residents are being encouraged to listen to local radio.

In addition, residents whose bins are emptied on Wednesday may not have their refuse removed and the council is trying to make alternative arrangements. In Ryedale, council chiefs were today checking which services would be affected.

Meanwhile, Hambleton District Council chief executive Peter Simpson said: "We want to assure members of the public that we will be open for business as normal, with disruption kept to a minimum."
