LECTURER Gweno Williams has won one of 20 top awards for teaching excellence in higher education.
Dr Williams, a lecturer at York St John College, received a National Teaching Fellowship Award, winning her and the college £50,000.
She attended a ceremony in London to receive her award from Margaret Hodge MP, lifelong learning and higher education minister. Dr Williams will use her prize money to produce a team digital video to develop ways of learning and teaching with the arts curriculum.
She is a senior lecturer in the department of literature studies, specialising in English literature, and has been at the college for 21 years. The 20 winners were chosen by a panel from 82 nominations from colleges and the awards are run by the Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education.
