TALENTED York youngsters have been displaying a range of musical and creative talents.

Pupils from St Wilfrid's School, in Monkgate, York, went down a storm at their end-of-term production.

More than 150 youngsters took part in Three Cheers For Mrs Butler, which is based on the poems of popular children's author Allan Ahlberg.

Head teacher Colm Flanagan said: "The children performed as a number of different characters. It was absolutely hilarious - the parents loved it."

Children at Woodthorpe Primary School were out to shock and horrify their parents this week, with their end-of-term musical show.

The Final Scream has been treating its audiences to gore, horror and more.

The main characters are Crankenstein, played by Chris Guard, who makes human monsters, including Gloria, who is actually a man, played by Michael Green, and Seymour the Psychopath, who collect's women's eyeballs, played by Arron Fishwick. Also involved are some inept vampires, a soundtrack from the Rocky Horror Show and a very happy ending.

The play was written and directed by teacher Kate Robinson, who is leaving the school this summer after creating several annual original productions, and her colleague, Sally Firth, was responsible for its musical direction.

Pupils from Bishopthorpe Infants School and Archbishop of York's Junior School entered artwork for a competition held at the village's Queen's Golden Jubilee extravaganza, at Bishopthorpe Palace.

Jenny Harris, owner of the Marcia pub, in Bishopthorpe, organised the event and displayed the art on the palace walls.

Children were asked to design a new Coronation gown and royal transport of the future. Infants school head teacher Becky White said: "It was of a very high standard. The archbishop was a bit overwhelmed so many children had taken part."

Mrs Harris said those who missed the Jubilee open day at the palace could attend a picnic event there, on Saturday, August 3.

Meanwhile, St Edward's playgroup, at Dringhouses, York, celebrated its 20th birthday and said farewell to group leader Anne Thom. Parents and children enjoyed a complimentary slap-up meal at Pizza Express. Anne was with the group for ten years.
