Dunnington'S 61-47 win at Riccall was enough to maintain their narrow lead in division one of the Tyke Petroleum York Men's Tennis League.

Phil Spencer and Andy Peeke-Vout won all three scoring 28 but Riccall's Johnathan Sharp and Neil Richardson won two rubbers for 21. The match stood at 36-36 when Dunnington found that extra gear.

Sutton moved into second place above Poppleton. Paul Thomas and Paul Swift scored 30 of Sutton's 65 against Bubwith.

Knaresborough again conceded, this time in Wigginton's favour.

Wheldrake's win over Strensall in division two will probably bring their promotion and end Strensall's chances. Wheldrake's 67 games brought only two defeats both to James Whitwell and Mark Howarth.

Civil Service's 72-36 win against Copmanthorpe could be their life-line, the return of Andrew Potter and the appearance of Nigel Skelton bringing more consistency. Poppleton II's three pairs contributed strongly in the 83-25 win over York II.

Castlegarth's 57-51 defeat at Cawood in division three dimmed their promotion hopes while securing Cawood's position.

Boston Spa are second after beating Wigginton II 42-66, each pair scoring 22. Bishopthorpe won the battle of the bottom two beating Sherburn 61-47, Paul Yoward and Simon Watson's 27 making the difference.

Castlegarth II's position at the top of division four was strengthened by a 76-32 win over Fulford and by second-placed Knaresborough II's failure to raise a team.

Heworth moved into third position after beating Selby 65-43. Selby's Steve Parr and Rob Jackson scored 26 but lacked support.

Division five leaders Rufforth beat Strensall II 65-43. Andy Ivel and David Laws led the way with Andy Goodchild and young Chris Laws only one behind on 23.
