GRAHAM Horne asks if recent events spell the beginning of the end for corporate capitalism (July 26).

As a socialist I wish it was in decline, but I doubt it is.

Capitalism is about the strong exploiting the weak, and profit, greed and power. Consequently, it appeals to the base instincts of most people - especially in the western world - encouraging avarice, materialism and selfishness.

There are no strong political movements with high ideals on an international scale. All major parties are pro-capitalist.

Unfortunately, capitalism remains dominant, for the forseeable future.
