THE resignation of Douglas Craig from the board of York City has been welcomed by the Supporters' Trust.

The former chairman, who had served on the board for 24 years, quit on Monday.

Trust spokesperson Sophie McGill said: "The departure of Douglas Craig as a director is another break from the past. Going forward it will help the club to improve its relationship with the supporters, the Council, local business and the community."

The Trust pointed out that Barry Swallow and Colin Webb remained on the board. They, together with Craig and former club director John Quickfall remain the majority shareholders (approximately 93per cent) and directors of Bootham Crescent Holdings plc, the company that appears to continue to own Bootham Crescent.

Richard Snowball, chairman of the Supporters' Trust, added: "The Supporters' Trust will continue to press with John Batchelor (City's chairman) for supporter and community representatives on the board of York City. We want to help the club move forward to a better future."
