ONLY only one game was played in division one with all the other five matches being total washouts.

However, that game did produce a significant result as leaders Ripon were soundly beaten at York and, as a result, dropped to third behind Driffield and Carlton Towers, who are level pegging five points up.

Only 19 points separate the top six sides.

Batting first, Ripon's batsmen, with the exception of Gary Blackburn (37), struggled against Richard Carroll (4-39), Kent Stone (3-36) and Dave De Sylva (3-19) and posted an inadequate 139.

York moved comfortably to an eight-wicket victory, with John McGrady (42) and, in particular, Andrew Kay (84no) in command.

The weather curtailed the division two programme where only two games were played, although this limited activity did involve the three top sides.

Leaders Tadcaster improved their promotion chances with a 40-run victory over third-placed Hornsea.

Taddy had to thank John Hill (36) for their fairly modest total of 130-8, Richard Medforth taking 3-19 for the vicitors.

When Hornsea replied, Dan Dales (38) did well but his comrades struggled against good bowling with medium pacer Paul Clark being the biggest thorn in their side. He earned 5-29 with his skiddy action to sail past 50 wickets for the season and had valuable support from Paul Downey (2-35) and Tyrone Naude (2-14) as the trio combined to dismiss the visitors for 90.

Second-placed Stamford Bridge boosted their promotion bid with a comfortable victory at Clifton Alliance, who were bowled out for 105 by Peter Aconley (3-12) and Graham Tipping (3-18).

The only resistence came from Alan Barton (39no) but his score was identicly replicated by Steve Towse as Stamford went on to win by six wickets.
