A WOMAN escaped from an attacker in Harrogate on Saturday evening after a passer-by intervened.
Police were today trying to trace the man who frightened off the culprit.
The 26-year-old victim was walking along Otley Road from the Prince of Wales roundabout towards Beech Road at 9.20pm when she was approached from behind by a man.
He dragged her a short distance on to The Stray, where he unfastened her trousers.
But when the passer-by shouted at him he ran off.
A police spokesman said officers wanted to hear from anyone who was in the area
The offender was described as being of medium build. He was wearing blue trousers and was about 5ft 6in.
Police also want to hear from a man who was seen shortly before the attack, who was described as white, in his mid 30s, 5ft 6in, of medium build, with short brown hair, and wearing a red short-sleeved shirt and blue trousers.
If you have any information, phone Det Sgt John Spivey on 01423 539456.
