DARREN Edmondson is poised for a recall tonight as York City welcome Shrewsbury Town to Bootham Crescent for their first home game of the season, writes Dave Stanford.

Wing-back Edmondson came on for the last 20 minutes of City's 1-1 draw at Macclesfield Town after starting out as a substitute following a hamstring strain.

Manager Terry Dolan is keeping his likely starting line-up under wraps but admitted Edmondson is in contention, with new signing James Okoli the most likely to make way.

Dolan also refused to say whether he will be tempted to make any formation changes and go for a more attacking line-up after successfully switching from 5-3-2 to 4-3-3 on Saturday.

If he does, the versatile Jon Parkin could also start up front with a central defender, probably Gary Hobson who was substituted on Saturday, the most likely to step down.

"There will be one change at least," said Dolan.

"The squad will be the same 16 but after coming on as a substitute Darren came through without any reaction so there is a fair chance he will start.

"Jon Parkin has been a bit troubled by a thigh strain in pre-season and we didn't really want to risk him and Darren right from the start on Saturday.

"Like Darren, he's shown no reaction after coming on as a substitute so he will also be in contention."

Dolan is refusing to read too much into reports from Gay Meadow that strikers Luke Rodgers, who scored 22 goals last season, and Nigel Jemson are both fighting to be fit.

"We are looking at it as if they will be fit," said Dolan.

"They have caused us problems in the past and it is something we have talked about.

"Hopefully, the players have taken it on board because they are a handful."

Dolan admitted Shrewsbury have become something of a bogey team for City in recent seasons.

"I think we picked up just one point against them last season and the season before no more than three.

"They are a useful team with plenty of experience in Mark Atkins who I'm sure some supporters will remember from a short spell he had here.

"The most important thing at this stage of the season is getting points and if we can get a better performance I will be a lot happier."
