York City could soon be ruling the airwaves. Chairman John Batchelor has revealed tentative plans for the football club to have its own match-day radio station.

The club is set to apply for licence to set up its own station, which will be able to broadcast on a limited signal for just a few hours on a match day.

As well as full-match commentary, the service would provide pre and post-match interviews with fans and players as they make their way to and from the ground.

The initiative could also see fans provided with mini-headsets, which can only be tuned in to the York City frequency.

"Alan Hyde (City's new match-day announcer) will be working towards it this season," said Batchelor.

"We may have it in place by the end of the year. Alan assures me it is possible."

City meanwhile are still planning to open up a club shop and bar in the centre of York but Batchelor said it was taking time to find the right location.

In the interim, the club has reached agreement with Browns department store, the Formula One shop and Allsports to stock the new City shirt.

Around 700 of this season's shirts have been sold in the first few days of the season - more than the whole of last season.

City's growing international brigade could soon have a new recruit.

The City senior squad already boasts Nigerian-born James Okoli with Brazilian striker Rogerio Carvalho ready to join the first-team ranks as soon as he gets international clearance.

And while Argentine Marcelo Veron saw his trial period end abruptly due to family problems in South America his compatriot and fellow trialist Nicolas Mazzina still remains with the club as he recovers from injury.

Now the Evening Press can reveal the City's head of youth development Paul Stancliffe is currently giving a two-week trial to Zimbabwean-born forward Brighton Mugadza.

The 16-year-old is currently living in Huddersfield with his uncle and is spending two-weeks training with City's youth team, which includes Turkish youth international Levent Yalcin, as he bids to earn a three-year scholarship with the Minstermen.

Mugadza was previously with First Division Bradford City and had been offered an apprenticeship with the Bantams for this season. However, when the cash crisis at Valley Parade erupted in the summer Mugadza saw the offer withdrawn as Bradford looked to cut costs.

He was then recommended to City, who have a vacancy in their intermediate ranks following Lee Grant's decision to reject the Minstermen's offer of a scholarship in favour of joining Aston Villa.

Meanwhile, City are appealing for a Portuguese-speaking supporter to help newcomer Rogerio improve his English speaking. Anyone who can help should contact the club.
