Danni Baker and Phil Langley won 32 games for Wigginton and were well backed up by Sue Espiner and City of York men's singles champion Oliver Gardner and the unbeaten Denise Crane and Ian Tooms.

The victory was enough to edge out Poppleton on games difference.

The defeat leaves Civil Service and York III in relegation trouble after Rowntree Park secured safety after beating relegated Sherburn 60-48. York still have to play Sherburn while Service tackle Rowntree Park.

Fulford finished third in division one after victories over Tadcaster (70-38) and Civil Service (71-37). Jill McCreedy and Tony precious won 25 games - one more than Nigel Skelton and Jackie Heels - against Tadcaster.

Unbeaten Pam Campbell and Francis Milivojevic won 26 games as Selby finished in third spot in division four after defeating Strensall 57-51. Strensall preserved their status with a 54-54 draw with Wilberfoss - each round finishing 18-18.

Heworth and Wigginton have clinched the two promotion places in division six after Heworth beat Dunnington 63-45 in a match which saw Chris Vis and Alan Bradshaw win 27 games.

Poppleton's hopes of going up vanished when they lost 59-49 to Cawood.

In division seven, Bishopthorpe ended up winning ten matches but only finished third. Their latest win saw Jane Parkin and Adrian Hitchenor win 22 games in the 57-51 victory over Strensall, who bounced back to beat Tollerton 57-51 with Carol and Matt Woods winning 25 games.

Wins over Tadcaster (67-41) and Wistow (65-43) have boosted Bubwith's chances of finishing runners-up behind champions York in division eight.

York were surprisingly beaten by Castlegarth while Wilberfoss climbed the table with a 57-51 win at Dunnington and a draw at Wistow, Sonia Davies and Ged McTernan top scoring in both matches.

Wheldrake clinched the second promotion spot in division nine after a 74-34 win against Tollerton, who are relegated.

Civil Service were plunged into relegation trouble after losing 61-47 to Tollerton.

Stillington, who just missed out on promotion from division ten last year, took the title this time round.

They finished in style by beating previous leaders Nestle Rowntree (70-38) and promotion rivals Escrick (67-41). Joan and John Dougherty were Stillington's match-winners.

Despite defeat, Nestl hung on to second spot, two points ahead of Escrick, who are striving to go back up at the first time of asking.
