YORK City could be poised for yet more international honours.

Youth team defender Graeme Law has received an invitation to attend trials for Scotland's Under-19 squad later this month.

Copmanthorpe-based Law, who qualifies for Scotland through his parents, is in the second year of his scholarship at City.

He was a regular in the City reserve team last season and towards the end of the campaign was also drafted into the first team squad by manager Terry Dolan.

The 17-year-old, who can play anywhere down the right-hand side, made the bench on five occasions but did not actually get the chance to make his debut.

The Scotland trials will take place in Largs on August 27-28.

Ironically, Law will be bidding for an international call-up at the same time as his youth team team-mate Levent Yalcin will be looking to add his collection of Turkish caps.

As reported in the Evening Press, Yalcin flew out to Istanbul yesterday to link-up with his Under-18 colleagues ahead of two friendly matches against Russia on August 26 and 28.

City's head of youth development, Paul Stancliffe, said Law's selection for the Scottish trials is richly deserved.

"Graeme has done very well to get this far," said Stancliffe.

"He was on the verge of his first-team debut last season and things are going quite well for him again.

"Last season, there was a couple of injuries in the first team towards the end but he got there on merit.

"This season, everyone has reported back very fit so he has got to be a little bit patient and wait for his chance."

Should Law win selection to the Scottish team he will join a growing list of current City players to have enjoyed international recognition.

Aside from Yalcin, goalkeeper Russ Howarth, who remains on City's books while his proposed move to Wolverhampton Wanderers drags on, has been capped at England Under-20 level and was this summer called into the U-21 squad.

Earlier this week, Alan Fettis was called up by Northern Ireland for their friendly with Cyprus tonight but with the City shot-stopper still recovering from a broken finger he was denied the chance of adding to his 25 caps.

In the current City squad, Mike Basham, Stephen Brackstone and Richard Cooper have all played at England youth level. Alex Mathie has been capped at Scottish youth level, Graham Potter by England U-21s while Lee Nogan is a full Welsh international.

Law, Fettis, Potter and Mathie were all named in a strong City reserve team which kicked-off their Avon Insurance League Division One (east) campaign at home to Darlington this afternoon, kick-off 2pm.

Also included was Lee Bullock as he edges closer to full fitness following an operation on his ankle, and Brazilian striker Rogerio, who finally got international clearance yesterday.

City reserves: Fettis, Okoli, Wood, Wise, Law, Bullock, Fox, Potter, Mathie, Wilding, Rogerio, Collinson, O'Kane, McCAbe, Davies, McKenzie/ Coad.
