THORP Arch II recorded the quickest victory of the season by beating Heslington by six wickets in a game which lasted a total of 17 overs.

Heslington were dismissed for a paltry 36 in 11 overs in division six as Graham Pearce took 6-15 in six overs and Simon Ball 3-21 in five.

Despite losing four wickets, TABS were able to race to victory in just six overs to leave their opponents under the threat of re-election.

With rain preventing leaders Hovingham gaining a result, New Earswick grabbed to chance to go top with a fine two-wicket win at Cawood with just four balls to spare. The home side were able to make one of their highest scores of the season as Dave Gibson made 46, Brian Hall 77no and Richard Steen 31 helping them to 177-4. Martin Hewitson had 3-76 for Earswick who had to thank Dale Winters (55), Chris Smith (33) and Rob Wood( 26no) for their winning score of 178-8. Steen took 3-63 and John Gibson 3-68 but Earswick won in the last over.

Mike Hemmingway (4-34) and Jim Fisher 4-42 restricted Civil Service to 86-9 against Hovingham. Colin Chambers made an unbeaten 27 but the game was abandoned at tea-time as Hovingham's title hopes were damaged although they are assured of joining New Earswick in promotion.

Stamford Bridge were held to a draw in a low-scoring game by Wilberfoss and cannot now finish in a top two place. Ian Fraser made an unbeaten 58 as Stamford made 104-4 in a 34 over session. Brian Aconley followed with 3-24 but Wilberfoss held out at 69-8 to keepabove the re-election zone.

League's honour

TWO products of the York Senior League have been selected for the forthcoming Under 19 one day competition.

Ex-Castleford player Tim Bresnan and ex- Sheriff Hutton and Stillington bowler Nick Thornicroft are set to line-up in England colours. Both youngsters have made their first class debuts with Yorkshire during the season. The first one-day international ia at Bristol against India on Friday.
