TWO York-based jewellery designers have secured a truly "historic" milestone in their careers.
Work by Charmian Ottaway and Peter Moulton has gone on sale in the city's famous Jorvik centre.
The collection of necklaces, bracelets, earrings and cuff links, hand-made
from nine-carat gold or silver, has been inspired by York's Viking heritage.
The collection covers three themes: a dove depicted on a sculpture in York
Minster, a coin found in the city featuring Odin's Raven, and a 'tree of
life' motif from a bone strap end found during the Coppergate excavations.
The collection is exclusive to Jorvik, and each piece has a special Odin's
raven mark on the reverse to authenticate it.
"Having a collection on sale in Jorvik is a significant accolade for Peter
and me," said Charmian. A pendant from the collection was presented as a gift to Dame Judi Dench when she visited Jorvik last month to welcome its 13 millionth visitor.
Charmian and Peter each have their own businesses - Charmian is a working
jeweller with a workshop and gallery above Monkey Puzzle in High Petergate, whilst Peter runs his business from a workshop in Elvington. Charmian and Peter's collection of jewellery is now on show and available for purchase from the Jorvik gift shop, which is open from 9am to 5.30pm, and can be accessed without visiting the attraction. For more information, or to order items by mail order, phone Jorvik on 01904 543400.
