Golden Nun, a desperately unlucky loser at Newmarket recently, can get back in the winning habit at Chester tomorrow.

The filly, trained by Tim Easterby, who sent out Somnus to win at Ripon yesterday, will again be partnered by Kieren Fallon in the Surrenda-Link Nursery over five furlongs.

Golden Nun, a course-and-distance winner, failed to get a clear run on her latest nursery outing and it was not until inside the final furlong that she finally found daylight. Wriggling through a narrow gap, she finished fast, but was still a neck down at the line.

Compensation is expected to come the way of Golden Nun tomorrow.

Fallon and Easterby also team-up with Parting Shot in the Discover Racing Handicap.

The four-year-old has experienced mixed luck this season, winning a race, but also suffering some luckless outings.

His latest start was at Beverley last weekend, when he was beaten less than two lengths into seventh place in a 17-strong field after being unfavourably drawn towards the outside.

Things need to go right for Parting Shot, but on his day, he is a decent campaigner. Opportunity could come knocking for him here.

Easterby has another winning chance with Night Runner, the mount of Robert Winston, in the Tote Exacta Handicap over six furlongs.

A dual-winner this season, Night Runner may have most to fear from the James Bethell-trained Mitsuki - with that man Fallon on board.

The £20,000 Aga Shop Conditions Stakes takes pride of place on the Roodee course and my preference is for Pieter Brueghel, trained by Paul Cole.

In two previous visits to this track, Willie Supple's mount has scored both times, the latest being a handicap win in June.

His proven ability on this tight circuit should again stand him in excellent stead.

My Nap vote is awarded to Mumbling in the Festival Claiming Stakes. Mark Tompkins' gelding has enjoyed a cracking summer and gained his latest win at Pontefract 11 days ago in brave style.

At Salisbury, Highland Shot can hit the target in the Matthew Clark 'Fillies' Handicap over six furlongs.

Ian Balding's four-year-old has proved a model of consistency this summer, winning twice, including once on this course, and also running well in defeat on several other occasions. Martin Dwyer takes the mount tomorrow.

Also worth noting at Salisbury are the well-regarded Bahrqueen (3.20) and the in-form Ocean Avenue (3.50).
