THE former leader of York City Council, Rod Hills, who is facing criminal proceedings, has been allowed to return to York.
One of the original conditions of his being granted bail was that he did not enter the area within the city's ring road, where he lives and works.
But a judge at Newcastle Crown Court has lifted that ban and varied the bail conditions.
The conditions now in place are that Coun Hills resides at an address known to his solicitor - the address has not been disclosed - and that he does not directly or indirectly contact any prosecution witnesses. His case is listed for trial at Newcastle Crown Court later this year.
